Girls
Preparatory – Primary
- Black sleeveless leotard (vest style top)
- Short black circular skirt
- White ballet ankle socks
- Pink satin ballet shoes with pink elastic
- White wrap-over cardigan (optional)
- Hair tidy and tied back securely, white cotton headband if necessary (bun for exams)
NB. Socks/tights and shoes may be appropriate to the pupils skin tone
Grade 1 and above
- Black sleeveless vest style leotard
- Narrow black elastic belt
- Pink seamless ballet tights
- Pink satin ballet shoes with pink elastic (pink canvas / split soles from Gr 4 upwards if preferred)
- Pink satin pointe shoes with pink ribbons (if attending pointe class)
- Hair tidy and tied back securely (bun required for exams)
NB. Socks/tights and shoes may be appropriate to the pupils skin tone
Boys
- Black Lycra shorts with white vest/leotard or all-in-one, white socks and and black ballet shoes with elastic
This is the uniform required for classes and exams.The correct dress encourages correct posture and care in the classical work. It also allows the teacher and examiner to see more easily that the correct technique is being used.
No jewellery may be worn – this is for safety in class . If earrings cannot be removed they must be covered with tape.

TAP – Female Dress Code
Pre-Syllabus Assessment
Pre-primary & Primary
- BBO Sky Blue leotard with T-shirt sleeves, and attached blue skirt and white ankle socks, white tap shoes with 1″white ribbons and laces
Grades 1 – 3
- BBO Mulberry tank leotard (thick straps), tan tights or white socks, white tap shoes with 1″white ribbons and laces
Grades 4 – 5
- BBO Purple rouched-front tank leotard (thick straps), tan tights or white socks, white tap shoes with 1″white ribbons and laces
Grades 6 – 8 & up to Advanced 2 + Vocational
- BBO Black leotard rouched-front (thick straps), or low rouched-back style, tan tights or jazz pants, white tap shoes with 1″white ribbons and laces
- Silver tap shoes with 1″ silver ribbons from Intermediate may be worn
TAP – Male Dress Code
Primary- Grade 8 / Advanced 2
- Black trousers, white shirt, black socks, black tap shoes/black laces
TAP – Adult Dress Code
Primary- Grade 8 / Advanced 2
- Uniform as above or Black BBO leotard or White T-shirt/sweatshirt, tan tights or jazz pants
Tap shoes should have a low heal with toe and heal plates and ribbons/laces should be co-ordinated with the shoes/ leotards
The use of Teletone taps and Cuban heals is not recommended for younger candidates below Gr 6

Dancewear for IDTA Contemporary Modern Jazz Classes & Exams
Girls
- Bare feet (foot thongs/dance paws optional)
- Hair in a tidy style – bun or French plait
- Own choice of dancewear in any colour e.g.:
- Leotard and footless tights
- Catsuit
- Leotard and lycra shorts
- Crop top (mid length) and tights or shorts
- Foil and hologram lycra may be worn but dance wear should have no additional trim, embellishments or sequins
- If you are unsure if your outfit is suitable please ask in advance of the examination day
