IDTA Dancewear for General Classes
Tots, Pre-younger Juniors and Younger Juniors
Girls
- Black sleeveless leotard (vest style top)
- Short black circular skirt
- White socks
- Black leather ballet shoes with black elastic
- White wrap-over cardigan (School sweatshirts may be worn for warm-up only)
- Hair tidy (white cotton headband if necessary)
Boys
- Black Lycra shorts
- White t-shirt
- Black leather ballet shoes with elastic
- Black tap shoes (lace up oxford style)
- White socks
- Hair tidy
Older Juniors, Seniors and Students
Girls
- Black sleeveless vest style leotard
- Students in the 10 AM class may wear an alternative style black leotard
- Black Lycra tights
- Black leather ballet shoes with elastic
- White tap shoes or sliver tap shoes (if purchased for exam classes)
- Hair tidy with white cotton headband if necessary
- School t-shirts may be worn (school sweatshirts may be worn for warm-up only)
No jewellery may be worn – this is for safety in class. If earrings cannot be removed they must be covered with tape.

Ballet up to grade 1
Girls
- Black sleeveless leotard (vest style top)

- White ballet ankle socks
- Pink satin ballet shoes with pink elastic (white satin shoes purchased for the show may be worn until they are too small)
- White wrap-over cardigan (optional)
- Hair tidy and tied back (white cotton headband if necessary)
Boys
- Black lycra shorts
- White t-shirt or white sleeveless leotard
- Black leather ballet shoes with elastic
- White socks
- Hair tidy
Grade 2 and over
Girls
- Black sleeveless vest style leotard
- Narrow black elastic belt
- Pink seamless ballet tights
- Pink satin ballet shoes with pink elastic (white ballet shoes purchased for the show may be worn until too small)
- Pink satin pointe shoes with pink ribbons (if attending a pointe class)
- Hair tidy and tied back (white cotton headband if necessary)
Modern

- Hair dressed in a classical bun (shorter hair should be tidy and secure). White headband if necessary.
- Plain white ankle socks
Grade 2 and over
- Pink satin ballet shoes with pink elastics
- Black sleeveless vest-style leotard
- ½ inch black elastic belt
- Pink seamless ballet tights
- Hair dressed in a classical bun (shorter hair should be tidy and secure). White headband if necessary.
Boys
- Black lycra shorts
- White t-shirt or white sleeveless leotard
- Black leather ballet shoes with elastic
- White socks
- Hair tidy
Modern Jazz
Girls
- Bare feet (foot thongs/dance paws optional)
- Hair in a tidy style – bun or French plait

Own choice of dancewear in any colour e.g.:
- Leotard and tights
- Catsuit
- Leotard and lycra shorts
- Crop top (mid length) and tights or shorts
- Foil and hologram lycra may be worn but dance wear should have no additional trim, embellishments or sequins
- If you are unsure if your outfit is suitable please ask in advance of the examination day

What to wear BBO TAP
TAP – Female Dress Code
Pre-Syllabus Assessment
Pre-Primary and Primary
BBO Sky Blue leotard with T-shirt sleeves, and attached blue skirt and white ankle socks, white tap shoes with white ribbons and laces.
Grades 1 – 3
- BBO Mulberry tank leotard (thick straps), Tan tights or white socks, white tap shoes with white ribbons and laces.
Grades 4 – 5
- BBO Purple rouched-front tank leotard (thick straps), tan tights or white socks, white tap shoes with white ribbons and laces.
Grade 6 – 8 & Vocational
- BBO Black leotard rouched-front (thick straps) or low rouched-back style, tan tights or jazz pants, white tap shoes with white ribbons and laces.
- Silver tap shoes with silver ribbons from Gr 7/Intermediate
TAP – Male Dress Code
Primary – Grade 8/Advanced 2
- Black trousers, white shirt, black socks, black tap shoes/black laces.
TAP – Adults Dress Code
Primary – Grade 8/Advanced 2
- Uniform as above or Black BBO leotard or White T-shirt/sweatshirt, tan tights or jazz pants
Tap shoes should have a low heel with toe and heel plates and ribbons/laces should be co-ordinated with the shoes/leotards.
The use of Teletone taps and Cuban heels is not recommended for younger candidates below Grade 6.
